Our Urban Planning course gives you the option to incorporate a placement year of paid work in industry after your second year of study. Most placements are fully salaried, with typical salaries from £17,000 to £22,000.

Integrated within our course from the first year is an emphasis on your own professional development, encouraging you to undertake extra-curricular activities such as Planning Aid. Planning Aid works with local communities and individuals to support them in contributing to planning such as the development of a Neighbourhood Plan. These types of activities will assist you in gaining valuable experience and developing a professional network to assist in securing a placement.

As part of the development of our new Urban Planning course, we have established relationships with the planning community nationally and locally in the East Midlands. Placement opportunities could range from local planning authorities and independent planning consultancies through to national government agencies.

Please note that whilst the Department offers great support for students to find a placement, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to source and secure their industrial placement.

Additional award

This course comes with the option to undertake an industrial placement for a year, at the end of which you will gain a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS). This is an additional award to the final qualification you will receive once you have successfully completed this course.

Student placement - a unique opportunity

More than 1,400 Loughborough University students complete a 12-month placement each year. They join a range of organisations and deliver tangible benefits to their hosts as well as honing a range of workplace skills.
