Student Success Academy

Access a range of personalised opportunities and programmes designed to help you reach your full potential.

Focusing on skills development across all stages of your student journey, the Student Success Academy manages a dedicated programme of holistic and sustained support.

Tailored to you

With so much going on, it can sometimes feel difficult to adjust and make the most of the opportunities on offer.

The Academy provides support at key moments and transitions throughout your university life. We’re with you every step of the way from the moment you join us, head out on placement, enter your final year and as you prepare to become a graduate.

We’ll listen to your experiences and help you overcome barriers so that you can achieve your own version of success – be that academic, personal or career specific.

We know that starting university can feel overwhelming, so we’ve created a group peer mentoring programme to help you settle in, meet new people, and find a support network right away.

Get Ahead Together

Get Ahead Together offers four interactive group mentoring sessions in semester one of your first year.

Topics include:

  • Step into study at Loughborough
  • Managing money
  • Finding a job
  • Confidence and handling challenges

Academic Success Coaching

Our Academic Success Coaches offer exclusive 1:1 coaching, group coaching, workshops, and resources to support you.

The team will help you identify and use your strengths, build confidence, improve your academic performance, and develop key skills for your studies.

Belonging, Diversity and Inclusion

We champion belonging, diversity and inclusion and are committed to promoting these values in everything we do.

Black and Asian Talent

Through Positive Action initiatives, like the Future Talent Programme, we provide our Black and Asian students with valuable work experience. This programme is designed to enhance career prospects and build confidence by connecting students with placements, internships and employers who are interested in hiring diverse talent.

Our programmes provide a safe and supportive space to help your personal growth and to help you reach your career goals.

Activities on the programmes include:

  • Peer mentoring - to help you to secure a placement.
  • Alumni Mentoring - for you to develop your skills and personal growth, e.g. through goalsetting and accountability.
  • Talent Match Micro-internships - to add valuable work experience to your CV.
  • Exclusive employer challenges – to experience typical activities involved in certain roles and sectors, providing great practice for Mock Assessment Centres.
  • Guest speakers – to access role models and people in industries with shared lived experiences.
  • Dedicated sessions with employers – to gain exposure and network with employers.

Our Future Talent Programmes are designed to supercharge Black and Asian students’ career prospects and confidence through access to meaningful work experience (Placements and Internships) and employers with a genuine interest in recruiting diverse talent into their workforce.

Talent Match Internships

The Student Success Academy supports Talent Match, our paid internship scheme that provides short-term, high-quality work experience.

Micro-Internships for first- and second-year students

Our flexible micro-internships or project-based opportunities give you up to 50 hours of paid work experience. These projects are flexible, so you can fit them around your studies and other commitments.

Finalist and Graduate Internships

Our Finalist and Graduate internships give you the chance to gain professional work experience before you graduate. On this paid internship you would work on a flexible, graduate level project. Taking around 100 hours, it can be spread out over a few weeks to fit your schedule.

Summer Internships

Students at any year level and recent graduates can get paid professional work experience over the summer. For about eight weeks, you would work on a project within a University Department.
