Designed to give students the flexibility to tailor their studies to their passions and aspirations, our accredited Natural Sciences BSc/MSci course draws on the University’s expertise in bioscience, chemistry, geography, materials, mathematics and physics to deliver a broad-based combined honours degree consisting of pathways from a range of life and physical sciences, as well as opportunities for interdisciplinary study.

Natural Sciences at Loughborough

Today Loughborough University is one of the UK’s leading centres of excellence for teaching and research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) – with a proven track record in supplying industry with high-calibre, highly motivated graduates. The breadth of our expertise enables us to offer this exciting Natural Sciences programme with multiple pathways.

Our Natural Sciences course offers students the chance to learn how to capitalise on the knowledge from multiple disciplines, with a focus on working and communicating across the sciences. These transferable skills are extremely relevant and needed more and more for tackling real-world challenges.

You will be taught by a range of academic staff from across the university, depending on the pathway you choose, acquiring knowledge and transferable skills from highly skilled staff who are experts in their field, active in interdisciplinary research and passionate about the subject they teach.

The BSc and MSci Natural Sciences degree courses are accredited by the Society for Natural Sciences (SNS).

Facilities

As a student on our Natural Sciences degree, you will have access to a wide range of facilities across campus. Within our state-of-the-art STEMLab facility you will benefit from a suite of laboratories specifically for practical work in physical and natural sciences. The bio-laboratory will provide students with opportunities to gain applied experience with biological samples.

Accreditation

The Natural Sciences BSc and MSci degree courses are accredited by the Society for Natural Sciences (SNS) – a professional body for scientists, educators and students working across the discipline boundaries of science.

The programmes have achieved the standards set out in the Society’s accreditation framework and are recognised by SNS as “offering outstanding quality interdisciplinary science education, providing students with excellent learning opportunities and skills development to prepare them for future careers in research, education, business or industry”.

Loughborough University is among the first group of institutions whose degree programmes have been accredited by the SNS.

Placements

One year on placement
All our courses offer the opportunity to spend a year working in industry, giving you the chance to gain valuable skills sought after by employers. A placement year, which can be spent at up to three organisations, allows you to gain first-hand experience of a real role with real responsibilities. A year in industry will equip you with key knowledge and practical skills to give you a competitive advantage in your search for graduate employment.

Study abroad
Gain international experience with the study abroad option. Spend one year studying abroad, or at two partner universities for six months each, broadening your insights into a new culture.
