Among the wide choice of topics on offer, the modules on Empire and Imperialism, especially in South Asia, were fascinating and I was able to explore them further as I progressed through my degree. This interest led me to write my dissertation about my family’s migration to the UK from India and their settlement in Yorkshire. This was a social history project, blending local culture and wider debates around Anglo-Indian history.
