Role description: Global Alumni Ambassador

Role purpose

A Global Alumni Ambassador is a voluntary role that helps the University better engage and support its global alumni communities in regions where we have a large number of alumni (China, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Singapore and the USA).

An Alumni Ambassador supports the University’s strategy by acting as a local point of contact, keeping Loughborough graduates connected through alumni meet-ups and networking opportunities, as well as supporting international student recruitment efforts through sharing their career experiences with current and prospective students. 

Duties & responsibilities 

  • To work with the University’s Alumni Engagement team to:  
  • Act as a voice for the University’s alumni community and be a positive advocate for Loughborough University and relevant initiatives.
  • Act as an informal first point of contact for alumni and selected stakeholders in your country and refer to the relevant University teams where appropriate.  
  • Ideally, we'd like you to organise two informal alumni meetups with fellow alumni each year, helping to keep the local alumni community connected and engaged e.g., drinks, dinners, reunions, sporting events, networking events etc.
  • Build and maintain a network of actively engaged alumni in your area to support Loughborough University initiatives such as alumni that may be able to provide international placement/graduate opportunities.
  • Actively support the University’s work on QS Survey rankings.  
  • Help reconnect alumni who have lost contact with the University.  
  • Act as admin for country-based WhatsApp / WeChat groups and contribute to conversations, ensuring these channels remain active and engaging.
  • Support the Global Engagement team with their in-country work, such as recruitment fairs, pre-departure events, and provide regional intelligence relating to alumni interests, employment trends, and opportunities to support University engagement in your region. This may include attending events for current and prospective students and other key partners, occasionally supported by the Alumni team.
  • Work alongside members of the Alumni Advisory Board where appropriate.  
  • Provide regular feedback reports. You will attend three-monthly meetings with the International Alumni Engagement Officer. 

Person specification

We are looking for alumni who:  

  • Studied a Loughborough University undergraduate or postgraduate degree or have evidence of having studied at the University (Loughborough or London campus).  
  • Are based in one of the following countries: China, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Singapore, or the USA.  
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Have strong digital and social media skills.  
  • Have the ability to network and develop good working relationships.  
  • Can work independently and with a proactive attitude.  
  • Have a strong personal network of alumni that can be utilised.
  • Have energy and enthusiasm and a passion for Loughborough University.  
  • Can dedicate sufficient time to the post (expected commitment is 3 hours per month, with more if you choose to organise an alumni meetup) and be open to organising and attending informal Loughborough alumni meetups. 

Other information to note

  • This is a voluntary position for a term of 18 months, starting on 1 January 2027, though the Alumni Team reserves the right to terminate this volunteering opportunity at any point.  
  • Ambassadors act as volunteer representatives and advocates for the University but are not authorised to make official commitments or statements on behalf of the institution.
  • The position is based in-country and involves organising and supporting in-country activity.  
    You will work alongside other Global Alumni Ambassadors, both in your-country and in other locations.
  • Full training and ongoing support will be provided by the Alumni team.
