Alum celebrates theatre success in Dubai

For alum, Gaby Milky (MA Performance & Multimedia, 2014), storytelling has never been confined to a single medium. Since graduating from Loughborough University, Gaby has built a creative career spanning theatre, film, animation, and puppetry, earning acclaim across the UAE and Lebanon while developing a distinctive voice as a writer, director and performer.

Now based between Dubai and Beirut, Gaby has become a recognised name within the region’s independent theatre scene, most recently celebrating the success of his award-winning play Peter Pan Syndrome and the launch of a new solo puppet production, Analog.

Over the past year, Gaby’s theatrical work has attracted significant attention from audiences and critics alike. His full-length play Peter Pan Syndrome enjoyed a sold-out run at The Junction, Dubai, before going on to receive an impressive 12 nominations at the Junction Awards 2026. The production took home three major awards, including Best Script, Best Ensemble and Best New Talent.

I'm a theatre writer and director, actor, animator, filmmaker and puppeteer, but really I'm just someone who loves telling stories. I'm Gambian-Lebanese and speak English, Arabic and Wolof, and that mix has shaped the way I see the world and the stories I want to tell.”

The success followed another notable achievement in 2025, when Gaby’s short satirical comedy Corporate ManifesTWO won Best Script at the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival Dubai. The production also secured Best Actor and Best Theatre Company awards for Gaby’s company, Blinktonasia.

While theatre writing and directing have become central parts of Gaby’s career, his latest project reconnects directly with the themes he first explored during his studies at Loughborough.

Analog is a solo puppet show for adults, written and performed by Gaby himself. The show premiered in September at Les Marionnettes, the UAE’s first dedicated puppet theatre, and is now running monthly in Dubai, with upcoming performances scheduled for 23, 24 and 25 October, and November dates to be announced on Gaby’s website.

My MA in Performance & Multimedia at Loughborough gave me the freedom to experiment across forms and to see that a stage, a screen and a puppet can all be part of the same story. That idea runs through everything I make, especially Analog, which feels like coming full circle to what I first explored at Loughborough.”

Following the success of Peter Pan Syndrome, Analog represents an exciting new chapter in Gaby’s creative journey, showcasing the same compelling storytelling that has earned him recognition while exploring a more personal and experimental form of theatre.

Tickets and upcoming dates for Analog can be purchased and found on Gaby’s website.

Good luck, and congratulations on the tour Gaby!
