Painting and drawing classes

Learn a range of techniques and styles in this broad and varied mixed ability art class.

Evening classes

Experienced tutor Jo Sheppard will teach you a variety of styles and techniques in this class, which is suitable for beginners and those with more art experience. Topics covered will include drawing from observation, lino printing and working in a variety of wet and dry media. 

Please note that this class is not open to under 16s.

When

Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7-9pm, during term time (autumn and spring terms) and over the summer holidays (subject to tutor availability). The current set of classes started w/c 24 June 2024 and run until w/c 19 August 2024. It is exactly the same content for both days.

Please note that there will not be a class on Tuesday 23 or Thursday 25 July.

Where

Room 63.2.13, Edward Barnsley Building, School of Design and Creative Arts. This building is located on the Loughborough College side of Epinal Way, opposite the main campus. The room is on the top floor of the building and there is lift access. The building is card access only so the tutor will meet you in he foyer and let you in. Please use the main Creative Arts entrance and not the Cope foyer - this is the entrance closest to the artificial sports pitch.

Parking

Parking is available in front of Edward Barnsley Building with further parking around the side. Visitors are now required to register their vehicle and pay to park on campus, including outside Edward Barnsley. There is a flat evening rate of £1 after 6pm. There are various ways in which you can register and pay:

· Download the APCOA Connect App (location code 2862)

· Pre-book parking online

· Pay for parking online (on arrival)

· Pay by ScanPay on arrival (please note that ScanPay charges a booking fee)

· By phone: 01895 262122 (location code 2862)

· By cashless pay machines on campus. At present the closest pay machine is in Car Park 9, which is on the opposite side of Epinal Way to Cope Auditorium.

There is an additional 20p surcharge that applies to each payment using APCOA Connect / Scan Pay.

How to book

Our mailing list subscribers are able to access a priority booking period for our evening classes. Following this, any remaining tickets go on general sale and booking links to Eventbrite are added to this page. Please note that these classes are incredibly popular and usually sell out within the priority booking period. Therefore, being on our mailing list is your best chance of getting a place.

Our autumn classes are expected to go on sale in late August/early September.

Accessibility 

The room is located on the top floor of Edward Barnsley Building and there is step free access into the building and a lift. 

If you have any specific access requirements or anything you would like us to be aware of when running the classes, please let us know via the booking form or email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk in advance of booking and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Refunds and Cancellations

We will issue refunds for cancellations (minus Eventbrite fees) up to seven days prior to the first class, but no refunds will subsequently be issued unless a class is cancelled and cannot be re-arranged.

Tutor – Jo Sheppard

Following an Art and Design Foundation in North Lincolnshire, Jo undertook a Degree in Fine Art at Coventry University, graduating in 1991. She trained to become a teacher of art in 1996 and taught in secondary schools until 2002, before taking the plunge to work as a professional artist. Alongside her own studio practice painting she continues to teach adults, run workshops in schools and work as a participatory artist with mental health service users.

Jo exhibits frequently in group shows and as a solo artist. She is an active member of the Loughborough based art group ArtSpace and the Leicestershire Society of Artists.
