Have you used the MLSC tutoring services?

I have used the in-person services only once, and it was during my final year to support with the data analysis and interpretation for my dissertation research project. The service was very helpful due to the convenience of not having to book a place and being able to turn up to the drop-in sessions

What type of maths assistance did you require? 

I required help with quantitative data analysis for my dissertation research project. I wanted some clarification on whether I could use certain types of analysis with the type of data that I had collected. I had previously done some analyses, and I wanted these to be checked to make sure I had done them correctly so that I could repeat the same analysis on another aspect of the data set.

The MLSC supported me through going through my data in detail and providing guidance on what analyses would be appropriate and what wouldn’t. This helped me to progress with the results section of my dissertation project. 

Why is mathematics support important for your studies?

It is important for my studies because for the dissertation project everyone has such different projects, and I was performing analyses which I hadn’t done before so it was helped me build confidence in what I was doing.

Please share your thoughts on the quality of support provided

The support I received was useful in building my confidence in what analyses I was able to do for my dissertation, but the tutor couldn’t check over whether I had completed my previous data analysis correctly or not. This would have helped me to feel even more confident that what I was doing was accurate too. 

Would you recommend the MLSC to other students? 

Yes, because the help is completely free and done in a supportive environment. I think the drop-in sessions are highly useful as you can go when it fits in your schedule. Being able to book appointments in advance is also very helpful as you can pick a tutor who might be better suited to help with your queries. This resource can help to build confidence, and I only wish I had utilised it sooner!
