Promising an inspiring and fast-paced event, the finalists will go head-to-head to share the story of their research in just three minutes.
Originally developed by the University of Queensland, 3MT® is a globally recognised competition that challenges doctoral researchers to communicate complex research in an engaging and accessible way. It’s as much about storytelling and connection as it is about academic excellence, making it one of the most anticipated events in the doctoral calendar.
Following a series of lively School heats over recent months featuring approximately 80 doctoral researchers, this year’s finalists have stood out for their ability to captivate an audience and communicate their work with real energy and insight.
Meet the finalists:
- Kei Stankevych (School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering)
- Abdulmajjid Alrashidy (School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering)
- Hasan Alnoaimi (Loughborough Business School)
- Rhona Breeze-Lawlor (School of Design and Creative Arts)

- Dr Kathryn North – Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Climate Change and Net Zero and Director of the Loughborough University Research Academy

The 3MT® Final is the highlight of the Summer Showcase, a full-day celebration (9.30am–4.30pm) hosted by Enhanced Academic Practice (Organisational Development and Change) on behalf of the Doctoral College. The Showcase brings together doctoral researchers from across the University in a supportive, collaborative environment, offering opportunities to share ideas, explore research, and build connections.
Alongside the 3MT® Final, there’s plenty to get involved in, including:
- a poster exhibition
- an interactive exhibition
- a Rapid Research Relay
- research vlogs
- a No-bell prize competition
- a free networking lunch for in-person attendees.
Colleagues are warmly encouraged to come along (either in person or online) to support our finalists and be part of this celebration of doctoral research, creativity, and communication.
