Staff, students and members of the community are invited to get creative this summer through a series of evening classes organised by LU Arts.

Two eight-week courses will run during June, July and August, offering opportunities to explore painting and creative writing in a relaxed and supportive environment. Both classes are open to beginners as well as those with more experience. Participants must be aged 16 or over.

Exploring Paint with Playfulness

Exploring Paint with Playfulness will run from 18 June to 6 August 2026, with classes taking place every Thursday from 6.30pm to 9pm in Martin Hall, MHL0.13.

The course will introduce participants to a range of painting materials, including oil, acrylic, gouache and watercolour. Participants will also have the opportunity to make their own paint using natural pigments.

Over eight weeks, participants will experiment with different techniques, tools and surfaces while exploring how artists use paint to create meaning and expression. The programme will draw inspiration from art history, from early cave paintings to contemporary works, and will culminate in participants creating their own landscape artwork.

The course costs £130, with a discounted rate of £65 for Loughborough students.

Participants will explore a variety of writing techniques and forms, including storytelling, character development, atmosphere, poetry and different writing styles. Through practical exercises, participants will have the chance to experiment with new approaches in a supportive, no-pressure environment.

The course aims to help participants rediscover their creativity, build confidence and enjoy writing alongside others. Feedback will be provided on work produced during the course.
