Student parking update

We're sharing some updates on student parking, including when you can apply for a parking permit

Students generally do not need a private car during their studies at Loughborough; the town is compact and most amenities, including the University, are within easy walking or cycling distance. A free shuttle bus is also provided by the University to support travel around campus.

If you do need to use a car while studying, you must register it with the University through the Student Self Service Portal to comply with Local Authority regulations – even if you don’t intend to drive onto campus. Any unregistered vehicles may incur charges under Ordinance XXIII.

Parking Permits

Parking permit applications will open to eligible students on Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Eligible students are:

  • Those who commute to University from outside the LE11 postal area
  • Those who live off campus in the LE11 area – these permits are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students living in Unite Accommodation are excluded from this as these halls have their own parking.

Please ensure that your term time address is up to date on the Student Self Service Portal before submitting your application as we use this information to verify your eligibility. Failure to do this will result in your application being declined.

Students who are not routinely eligible for a permit may apply if they meet our exceptional circumstances criteria.

Parking permits only allow parking in Car Park 1 (multi-storey), Car Park 7 (excluding 7a) and Holywell Car Park (not Holywell Gym) and are priced at £40 per month. Permits are managed through automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) and failure to park in a designated car park will result in a £70 Parking Charge (PC) being issued to your vehicle.

Additionally, parking at Burleigh Court is strictly available to guests of Burleigh Court only and parking at this car park will result in a PC being issued to your vehicle.
