A highlight of the doctoral calendar, the Summer Showcase is a high‑energy, celebratory event that brings together Doctoral Researchers from across the University. It’s a chance to share ideas, explore creative approaches to communicating research, and enjoy the buzz of connecting with a wider research community right across the University — all in a relaxed, supportive, and fun, enjoyable environment.
The event will take place in person on 29 June at the James France Building (East Midlands campus), with opportunities to join online.
Ways to get involved
Alongside the much‑anticipated University Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition Grand Final, Doctoral Researchers from all Schools are invited to showcase their work through a range of engaging formats, including:
- Poster Exhibition
- Images of Research Exhibition
- Interactive Exhibition
- No Bell Prize
- Rapid Research Relay
- Research Vlogs
Why take part?
Beyond prizes, the Summer Showcase offers clear professional development benefits. Taking part enables doctoral researchers to:
- present their research to audiences beyond their immediate discipline,
- build confidence communicating complex ideas clearly and creatively,
- experiment with and learn from a wide range of presentation styles and formats, and
- connect with doctoral researchers and staff from across the University.
This blend of celebration, experimentation, and connection continues to be one of the most valued aspects of the event.
Feedback from last year’s Summer Showcase highlighted its impact:
- 100% agreed it provided an inclusive space to listen, engage, and learn
- 97% valued the opportunity to share research and build connections
- 98% said they would recommend the event to a peer or colleague
Key dates and next steps

Looking ahead to this year’s event, Professor Dan Parsons, Pro Vice‑Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said:
“The Doctoral College Summer Showcase continues to highlight the depth and range of talent within our Doctoral Researcher community. It is one of my favourite days of the year as the event brings together creative presentations, exhibitions, and cross‑disciplinary exchange. The event reflects the collaborative and exploratory spirit at the heart of research and innovation at Loughborough and I’m looking forward to seeing how this year’s Showcase sparks fresh conversations and new connections across our community.
Professor Valerie Pinfield, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor – Doctoral College, added:
"Our Summer Showcase is wholly dedicated to our Doctoral Researcher community - it's your space, your time, your opportunity to broaden your knowledge, engage and participate in new ways, build your skills, and connect with valuable networks. And it's a really enjoyable day! Come and be part of the buzz!"
Dr Katryna Kalawsky, Strategic Partner – Researcher Professional Development, added:
“The Summer Showcase is a dynamic and inspiring space where Doctoral Researchers can explore fresh ways of sharing their work and engaging diverse audiences across the research community and beyond. Colleagues in Enhanced Academic Practice are again incredibly excited to welcome Doctoral Researchers alongside others from across the University’s research ecosystem, creating opportunities for Doctoral Researchers to build confidence, connect across disciplines, and celebrate the vital contribution they make.”
