Each year, waste in accommodation areas doubles, and much of it consists of items that could be reused.
The aim of the scheme is to give unwanted items a second life by repurposing and rehoming them, helping to promote a circular economy and reduce the amount of waste we send to disposal.
The following items can be donated:
- Food (unopened cupboard food)
- Electrical goods (in working order or broken)
- Books
- Clothes and shoes
- Furniture
- Crockery and kitchen items
- Pillows, duvets, blankets
- Stationery (reusable)
- Toiletries
- Coat hangers
On-campus students
For students living on campus, donation stations will be located in a selection of common rooms across campus. These will be open from 8 June until 13 July.
More information, including a list of the donation stations, can be found on the Give n Go webpage.
The donations are distributed between several charities, giving students the opportunity to have a positive impact on the environment and local community. Charities involved include Falcon Centre, Trent Arches, British Heart Foundation, Better World Books, Shepshed Food Bank and many more.
Donation stations will have clearly labelled sections for each type of item. Please place items in the correct section and ensure they are clean before dropping them off.
Off-campus students
The Community Warden team have partnered with Age UK, who will be dropping off charity bags to houses in the student triangle and Kingfisher Road. Students are advised to leave donation bags outside their homes on 10 June, when a group of University and Age UK volunteers will be collecting the donations.
For students who miss the collection but still have items they would like to donate, please email waste@lboro.ac.uk.
Volunteers needed
The Sustainability team are recruiting volunteers to help sort through donations and prepare them for charity collections. If you are interested and available towards the end of June, please email waste@lboro.ac.uk.
