FloodLines, an indie rock band made up of members Tom Whitticase, Phil Teiros, Luke Chester and Alex Sharp, was formed in early 2025 whilst the group attended the University together.
Long-time friends Luke and Tom had discussed starting a band for years, but it was during late-night guitar sessions in their final year at Loughborough that the idea became a reality. After connecting with Phil through the University’s music society, the group later met bassist Alex at a local gig. Following weeks of songwriting sessions and rehearsals, FloodLines was officially formed.
The band creates independent music that is entirely recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered from home, as well as performing support and headline gigs across the East Midlands. Despite now living across four different cities, the group continues to collaborate remotely and travel to record together.
Bassist Alex commented: “Making music at university is something that's hard to replicate outside of that window of life, and something FloodLines wouldn't trade for anything. There's something special about having the time, the energy, and crucially, a flat big enough to host a full band practice (neighbour complaints included).
“After a long day of lectures and dissertations, picking up instruments and writing together never felt easier. Loughborough gave us the environment to let that happen.”
Earlier this month, FloodLines’ debut single, ‘Final Fear’, was played on BBC East Midlands during their BBC Introducing broadcast, followed by a band profile and discussion of their Loughborough University roots. The single was released today, listen on Spotify.
FloodLines’ BBC Introducing appearance came as a surprise to the band after Alex secretly submitted the single for consideration.
