EDI Enhancement

For activities that have made the University more equitable, diverse, and inclusive.

The ‘EmpowerHER’ Week Team

Delivered by the Student Sport Team in March 2024, the EmpowerHER week aimed to provide opportunities for women to overcome barriers to physical activity. The project wasn’t just about getting active, it aimed to shift perceptions and empower women to confidently embrace physical activity. Over 250 women participated in a variety of activities tailored to diverse interests and skill levels. The team hope to make EmpowerHER an ongoing campaign to attract new participants and sustain engagement with physical activity.

Rakhee Patel

Rakhee has a critical role in the University’s Athena Swan and Race Equality Charter submissions. Rakhee also provides advice and support for LGBTQ+ colleagues, working closely with Stonewall to create an inclusive environment for LGBT+ colleagues and students. Rakhee successfully hosted two seminars titled, “It’s not a Barbie World.”  The purpose of these seminars was to provide a safe space where colleagues could develop the skills to respectfully explore often contentious topics, such as gender identity, patriarchy, power, and privilege.

Bhav Mistry

Bhav has made the University more equitable, diverse, and inclusive in a novel, fun, sociable, safe and informative way. Bhav was responsible for the ‘Know My Heritage’ EDI events, a series of presentations where colleagues had the opportunity to share their heritage. The project regularly collaborates with others within and beyond the School, allowing authentic content to be shared responsibly and carefully.

A true champion of the rights of people with disabilities throughout her career, Jennie also leads our research project ‘Para Sport Against Stigma’.  Jennie has made vast strides in building an inclusive community at the Loughborough London Campus; creating communities of practice where EDI is discussed, awareness is raised, and systemic barriers are challenged.
