Matthew Inglis & Camilla Gilmore

This nomination was based on Matthew and Camilla’s tireless work and well-documented success at creating a world-class research environment in the Centre for Mathematical Cognition. A distinctive feature of Matthew and Camilla’s way of allocating resources is that they place great emphasis on creating opportunities for early career researchers, including a mentoring programme and bespoke in-house training opportunities.

The Pint of Science Organizing Committee

This team have coordinated the second largest ‘Pint of Science’ showing in the country. They have demonstrated initiative in seeking out advertising beyond the usual academic conduits, to engage as much of the local community as possible – a key part of the new Public Engagement strategy.

Sabina Mihelj

Sabina is not only a superb researcher in her own right working on a variety of high impact, international projects. Alongside this, she has created a supportive and collaborative research environment within Communication & Media as the Research & Innovation Director. Sabina is constantly on the look-out for how she can help junior colleagues progress, whether identifying potential PhD students or providing feedback on research funding bids.

The Inaugural Lectures Team

Inaugural lectures are central to showing the University community how and why we conduct research, whilst celebrating our inaugural Professors. This team have been brilliant at organising these events, in a highly efficient and friendly way. Their work is central to the successful delivery of this key lecture series.

The Cyber Essentials Team

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed scheme for organisations to demonstrate good practice in cyber security, by verifying that a wide range of security measures have been implemented. With a mandate from Infrastructure Committee, a team was formed to create a ‘Secure Research Network’, which successfully met the stringent CE+ requirements.  This certification gives Loughborough a significant competitive advantage when it comes to bidding for research funding where security is a consideration.
