Enhancing Staff/Student Wellbeing & Experience

For activities that improved the health and wellbeing, and experience of the University’s staff and students.

Rich Fenn-Griffin

Rich is a passionate supporter of biodiversity on our Loughborough campus – without the projects and opportunities delivered by Rich, staff and students would be less aware of our beautiful campus and the benefits of nature to our health and wellbeing. For example, Rich organises butterfly and bumblebee surveys, whilst also hosting wellbeing activities like ‘Christmas In The Woods’ and the renowned Burleigh Wood bluebell walk.

Chris McLeod

Chris has been nominated for the strong leadership, direction and support he has shown to the LGBT+ staff network and wider community. Chris took what was a good functioning staff support group and transformed it into a successful and effective staff network advocating for LGBT rights and support. He has been the driving force in tackling important issues and ensuring the right people were able to deal with them. The result of this change in direction and leadership was to see the number of network meeting attendees more than double.

Julie Turner

In her new role within the School of Design & Creative Arts, Julie has provided vast support to academics and professional services staff to improve their overall health and wellbeing. Julie continues to embody the University values through her authentic leadership, whilst also raising the profile of Occupational Health within the School at an especially difficult time for her colleagues.

The University Chaplaincy Team

The Chaplaincy Team have made a step change in the way in which they are supporting staff and students of different faiths. We are the only University to take positive action to proactively try to support staff and students impacted by the events in Gaza promote healing through a series of Peace Cafes. We have for the first time run an oversubscribed interfaith Iftar meal during Ramadan to promote interfaith discussion. Activities such as these build bridges, create dialogue and understanding, and form a safe and welcoming space in accordance with our University values. They demonstrate that there is a space for everyone, no matter what their beliefs.
