Enhancing Student Experience

For significant impact on the student experience across all aspects of their University life.

Louise Kitching

Across her 35 years at Loughborough University, Louise has had a profoundly positive impact on the University experience of countless students within the School of Science. Her compassion and patience are crucial to offering our students the support, confidence and belief that they can succeed and flourish at the University. As an advocate for student welfare, Louise has been the driving force behind positive changes in examination and assessment processes, in particular, how invigilators and exam staff interact with students – especially those with special requirements and adjustments.

Helen Nowell

Helen is an experienced Module Leader in first year, and as a result, thinks deeply about the backgrounds students are transitioning from into Loughborough. She appreciates students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds may not have had the opportunity to experiment and innovate with expensive and bespoke arts machinery, processes, and mediums. As a result, she offers the greatest number of optional workshops (in our course) to offset disparities in access to creative materials & processes. Her soft skills and thoughtfulness benefit creating a Vibrant and Inclusive Community, through showing students how to be responsible and authentic through example.

Martin Mejia-Tamariz

Martin has proactively considered EDI principles in designing students' learning journey, by creating accessible content and resources for all. Examples of this are pre-recording of all sessions, that were made accessible to all students since day one, and the creation of accessible content for students with dyslexia. He created hands-on activities to facilitate learning, such as collaborative experiment sessions and labs visits.

Loughborough London’s Welfare Team

The last 12 months have seen this team mature into an efficient, nurturing, and exemplary team of professionals. Their professionalism is exemplified by a number of initiatives they have introduced over the last year - their attention to detail has meant that students receive personalised support to flourish. During the year the team faced hugely impactful and emotive challenges – throughout which the support they provided to the student community was exemplary.
