Work begins on our newest hall of residence

University

Work has now officially begun on the University’s newest hall of residence on campus.

Representatives from GRAHAM, the firm building the new hall, joined the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings, LSU President Mia Jackson, James Henry (the University’s Executive Director of Finance), Director of Estates and Facilities Management Graham Howard and Project Manager David Bell to formally ‘break ground’ on 5 May.

The new hall will provide 552 en-suite bedspaces across five blocks, offering self-catered, en-suite facilities with shared study and social space. The blocks will be set within beautiful, landscaped surroundings, all within easy access of key University facilities, such as the Edward Herbert Building, the soon-to-be completed DigiLabs Central, the Library, Powerbase and the Students’ Union.

James Henry, who chairs the management board overseeing the project, said: “The new hall of residence will be the first to be built on campus for nearly eight years and will be an amazing addition to the University’s suite of managed accommodation. It’s a significant investment in the Loughborough Student Experience and will help to cement Loughborough’s status as one of the UK’s very best universities.

“We know that where our students live and the facilities they have on their doorstep are important parts of their university life. Hall life can foster a real sense of community and belonging, helping our students to build friendships, networks and connections that last through their Loughborough years and beyond. The new accommodation will build on the broad range of options already available for our students.”

Building is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2027/28 academic year.
