Research and innovation

Committed to excellence and impact, we provide an environment where our academics and postgraduate researchers can excel – developing the knowledge and understanding needed to positively impact our built environments.

We have an excellent track record for attracting funding – currently standing at over £19 million – to support our innovative and industry-relevant research. We have a long history of working closely with industrial partners on novel collaborative research which informs our innovative teaching and enterprise activities.

We are delighted to be leading a £1.3 million investment by the UK Government in infrastructure delivery and maintenance. The Laboratory of Modern Methods of Infrastructure Delivery and Maintenance (LM3D) adds entirely new capabilities to the UK Collaboratorium for Research in Infrastructure & Cities (UKCRIC).

LM3D will house new equipment to support advanced methods of inspection, maintenance and repair – including robotic manipulation – enabling numerous research opportunities around infrastructure resilience to environmental and usage change as well as emission reductions.
