Carlos Aceves-González is a Lecturer in Inclusive Design in the School of Design and Creative Arts at Loughborough University. His work sits at the intersection of inclusive design, human factors ergonomics and design research, with a focus on delivering impactful research in complex socio-technical systems.

His research examines how inclusive design and human factors can improve safety, effectiveness and equity in healthcare and transport systems. He adopts systemic approaches to understand how interactions among people, technologies, and organisations shape user experience, safety, and wellbeing, particularly for vulnerable and underrepresented populations. His work has helped develop and apply a systems-oriented framework for inclusive service design across international contexts, particularly in the UK and Latin America.

He is a founding member of the Latin-American Network of Human Factors and Ergonomics in Healthcare Systems (RELAESA), which he currently leads, supporting capacity building and translating research into practice across the region. Carlos' academic career has been recognised with the IEA/Kingfar Award for advancing the understanding of emerging issues in human factors and ergonomics, particularly in inclusive services. He contributes to teaching in inclusive and human-centred design, and his work aims to generate real-world impact by informing the design of safer, more inclusive and resilient systems.

Currently Carlos leads and contributes to the following modules for undergraduate and postgraduate students:

  • DSC201 Design for Diversity
  • DSA303 Research for Design 1
  • DSP114 Design for All
  • DSP843 Generative Research and Prototyping for MA Design Major Project
  • DSP845 Design for Inclusive Experiences.
