How far are the halls from my lectures?

Our halls are located across campus, so most students are within walking distance of their lectures. There is also a free campus shuttle bus service running every 10 minutes, making it easy to get around quickly. We don’t recommend choosing a hall based on location alone, as this can limit your options - it’s better to focus on the room type and facilities that suit you best.

How do I get around campus without a car?

Getting around campus is easy without a car thanks to the free, fully electric shuttle bus service. It runs Monday to Friday and connects key locations across campus, including the Students’ Union, Pilkington Library, Wolfson School, and Holywell Park.

The service is frequent and designed to make travelling between lectures, facilities, and accommodation quick and convenient. For more information, see Free campus shuttle bus.

Can I store my bike?

Yes. All students living in halls have access to secure on-site bike storage. We recommend using a good-quality bike lock, and bicycles should be stored in the designated bike storage areas rather than inside residential buildings. The only exception is for members of the Cycling Club, who may bring their bike into their accommodation provided it is stored in a cycle bag. For further information, please see our dedicated bike storage page.

Can I bring a car to university?

Most students do not need a car while studying at Loughborough, as the town and campus are compact and easily accessible by foot or bicycle, with a free campus shuttle bus also available. If you do bring a vehicle, it must be registered with the University, even if you don’t plan to park on campus. Parking permits are not usually issued to first-year students, and unregistered vehicles may be subject to charges. For more information, please see Student Parking.

Can visitors park on campus?

Visitors can park on campus, but the East side is often busy during core hours (08:00–17:00), so it’s recommended that visitors use the West side car parks, particularly Car Park 1 (Multi-Storey) or Holywell Car Park. From there, a free campus shuttle bus runs across campus with regular stops.

There is a short grace period for drop-offs and collections, but after this time visitors must register their parking using one of the available payment or registration options (such as the APCOA app or pay machines). Parking charges may apply if vehicles are not registered or are parked incorrectly.

For full details, see Visitors parking.
