Commencing in Autumn 2024, IT Services will be rolling out the latest Microsoft Operating System, Windows 11 to devices on the staff-managed desktop service.
Upgrading to Windows 11 will ensure users are supported with the latest features, security, and functionality to support collaborations, teaching and learning.
Preparing your device
Ensure that your device is ready by backing up your data.
Do you keep files and folders on your device's desktop? If the answer is yes, the following action is required.
To help prepare for the upgrade users are encouraged to start reviewing the data stored on their desktop and take steps to back up files and folders to their University OneDrive account (cloud-based storage).
The process for upgrading to Windows 11 will erase the contents of the computer disk drive. It is the responsibility of the end-user to ensure that files and folders are saved on OneDrive.
Best practice guidance on backing up your data can be found on Windows 11 – preparing your device
Additional information about the upgrade can be on Windows 11 upgrade and FAQ web pages.
