When accessing University email, staff and students are advised to use Outlook, the University’s supported email client. This includes Outlook on the web, in addition to the Outlook desktop and mobile applications.
Outlook provides full compatibility with University IT services and offers the most reliable and secure experience when accessing mail, calendars and collaboration features. Using the supported client ensures access to new functionality, consistent performance across devices and full support from IT Services where assistance may be required.
As of October 2026, Microsoft are introducing changes to their email service which will restrict the functionality available to some third-party and non-Microsoft native email clients. As a result, alternative email applications may experience reduced functionality or may cease to work when accessing University mailboxes.
This may include Apple Mail (the native Mail app on macOS and iOS), along with other third-party email clients. While these applications may currently function, compatibility cannot be guaranteed going forward and the University is unable to influence or control vendor support timelines.
To avoid disruption, staff and students are strongly encouraged to use Outlook (Desktop app, Outlook on the web or mobile app version) when accessing their University email account.
