Microsoft Office 365

Loughborough University offers Office365 as the student email system. In addition to Outlook email, Office 365 provides students with file storage and collaboration tools.

Microsoft Teams or “Teams” as it is known is a communication and collaboration platform that combines chat, video meetings, file storage and collaboration. This can be split into three distinct solutions:

• Teams – groups of users with access to shared resources and collaboration tools
• Teams Meetings – ad-hoc or calendared virtual meetings
• Teams Live Events – broadcast system for large scale non-interactive events

As part of the Microsoft Office 365 suite, you will have access to Microsoft Power Platform. This suite provides access to various tools that can help automate business processes such as, Power Apps, Power BI, MS Forms etc. IT Services do not currently support Power Platform and there are limitations on functionality due to licensing constraints. Therefore, users should only use these tools for limited workflows or prototypes and should avoid any scenarios that:

• Support complex, business-critical processes.
• May generate or involve large volumes of data.
• Need data from core University information systems.

Unfortunately, IT Services are not able to provide support, training, or expertise in Power Platform tools at present. We are exploring how we can provide more comprehensive support for Power Platforms in future and will provide updates here as this service develops.
