Swimming
There was triple medal delight for Loughborough as Luke Greenbank, Max Litchfield, and Tyler Melbourne-Smith all made the podium on Sunday evening.
Litchfield recorded a maiden Commonwealth medal by winning silver for Team England in the Men’s 4x200m Relay team. Fellow current student Tyler Melbourne-Smith helped Wales to bronze in the same race.
Earlier on, Luke Greenbank won a gutsy bronze medal in the Men’s 200m Backstroke final to record his first individual Commonwealth Games medal after winning gold and silver in the events at both Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.

Lauren Cox missed out on individual medal glory in the Women's 100m Backstroke after finishing fifth in 1:00.35. The Loughborough alum was third fastest in semi-finals but couldn’t break into the top three in a quick final race.
Adam Ramsay-Peaty qualified for the final of the Men’s 50m Breastroke after a second-place finish in the semi-finals. The Loughborough honorary graduate hit the wall in 26.82 seconds and will be hoping to better his bronze in the 100m in tomorrow evening’s showpiece event, scheduled for 20:07 BST.
Elsewhere, current student Lucy Fox is still in with a shout of the Women’s 100m Butterfly final after making reserve at the semi-final stage. Fox’s time of 1:00.27 may yet be enough as she now plays the waiting game.
Netball
In netball, England and Australia renewed their old rivalry in Sunday’s standout clash at The Hydro.
In a typically fierce encounter, Loughborough-linked Jess Shaw and Fran Williams couldn’t prevent Australia running out convincing 66-47 winners. Shaw provided 17 assists from Wing Attack in what is sure to be one of England’s toughest Pool matches.
Elsewhere, Wales also fell to defeat as Scotland ran out 56-47 winners. Alum Alex Johnson and Lightning-linked Meg Pilkington both appeared for Wales, with former Lightning player Niamh McCall contributing 17 goals and 20 assists for the Scots.
In Pool A, Malawi led throughout to edge past alum Michelle Magee’s Northern Ireland, 64-48. The defeat sees Northern Ireland still looking for their first win.
In the same Pool, South Africa – and former Lightning player Nicola Smith – kept up their strong form by demolishing Tonga, 96-42.
Over in Pool B, former Lightning shooter Mary Cholhok scored 32 goals as Uganda dismantled Trinidad and Tobago, 80-36.
In the same Pool, Jamaica were edged out 53-48 by New Zealand. Former Lightning duo Shamera Sterling-Humphrey and Brie Grierson both played.
3x3 Wheelchair Basketball
In pool A, former Loughborough Lightning player Lucy Robinson helped Team England continue their fine form as they defeated 15-12 in a close match.
Later in the day, alum Thomas Harvey’s five points ensured England Men recorded two wins from two as Canada were beaten, 20-10.
Alex Marshall-Wilson top scored for Wales with eight points as South Africa beat his side 16-12 in the Men’s competition. The Loughborough alum netted half of his points from rebounds in the Pool B clash.
Scotland Women easily dispatched India 21-4 with current Loughborough Lightning player Kayli English and former player Robyn Love both making appearances.
Current sport scholar Ana Blease helped Wales crush Nigeria 17-1 in their second match in Pool B. That’s now two wins from two for Blease and Wales following yesterday’s triumph over India.
3x3 Basketball
Kyle Jiminez played both of Team Scotland’s matches on Sunday as they won one and lost one. The former sports scholar and Loughborough College learner scored four points in a victory versus Nigeria (21-16) and netted a further eight points in a defeat against New Zealand (13-21).
