This module aims to introduce students to the application of epidemiological methods to real-world public health issues, with a focus on physical activity, nutrition and lifestyle-related conditions. Students will develop skills in formulating research questions, research design, data collection and analysis using quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches.

• Provide students with the knowledge, skills and opportunities related to the practice of applied Clinical Exercise Physiology.

• Recognise and critically discuss the risk factors and pathogenesis of disease and long term conditions.
• Recognise and critically discuss direct & indirect impacts of diseases/conditions on health / physical function / quality of life / longevity.
• Explain the importance, value and processes involved in various diagnostic procedures, clinical management, and patient pathways.
• Identify and explain the indications for and contraindications to exercise, pharmaceuticals, and diet/nutrition.
• Identify and explain the impact of pathophysiology (and therapy) on acute and chronic exercise response.
