This degree prepares you for roles such as policy adviser, policy analyst, civil servant, diplomat, political risk analyst, public affairs consultant, parliamentary researcher, programme officer in an international organisation or NGO, and regulatory affairs specialist. It also provides a strong foundation for doctoral research.

Our institute’s graduates work in national civil services, in local and regional government, in international organisations, in think tanks and research institutes, the military, in political risk and public affairs consultancies, and in the policy and government relations teams of major companies.

You will graduate able to write a policy brief a minister could act on, analyse quantitative and qualitative evidence, negotiate and build coalitions, and present complex arguments to non-specialist audiences. These are the skills policy employers test for at interview. They are also among the most resilient to automation: employers increasingly seek graduates who combine analytical rigour with the distinctly human skills of persuasion and judgement, and who understand how to govern emerging technologies rather than be governed by them.

Through the Institute's Inside the Profession series, micro-internships with partner organisations, and visits to Parliament, embassies and leading think tanks, especially Chatham House of which we are an institutional member, you will build a professional network in London before you graduate.
