The User Experience Design programme prepares you for the job you want as a User Experience Design professional. This advanced degree is focused on employability. Over the years, this course has been developed in conjunction with industry contacts and partners. We have over 10 years of past students who have gone onto great careers in the Experience Design field, and we look forward to you doing the same too.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. It is not necessary to have a design background to complete this course – in fact some of our most successful students have come from backgrounds such as business, psychology and languages. All you need is an interest in people and a curious mind!
This course is quite unique in being offered as an MSc or an MA – you can choose which pathway you want. The content for the MSc and the MA is very similar; the main difference is what type of final project you will do. Doing an MSc means you will focus on empirical investigation and data analysis. If you do this programme as an MA your final project will be creative and big thinking. If you are not sure if the MA or MSc is better for you, don’t worry, we will help you choose after you start.
The MA/MSc User Experience Design programme equips students to become job-ready human-centred designers within industry. The programme's content will enable you to develop your industry standard skills and competencies in both the creative and analytical aspects of UX whilst working on a wide range of projects. This includes the opportunity to design experiences that embed digital in the physical world, tackle UX research questions, and develop a specialism in UX opportunities offered by new technologies such as AI and extended reality (XR).
You will develop key skills in user experience design principles and practice, including design research methods, usability, generative / evaluative prototyping, video prototyping, interaction design, teamwork, client-facing skills, and project management. You will further develop your UX research and design practice skills within an evidence-based major project that you can use to showcase yourself to the world.
This course is offered alongside a similar programme called User Experience and Service Design. The User Experience Design programme focuses on developing you as a UX specialist in either Virtual Reality, Inclusivity, or AI. However, the User Experience and Service Design programme focuses on service design and gives a broader view of user experience.
