I joined the University through Clearing. Having achieved better A-Level grades than expected, I wanted to re-evaluate my university choices.

Loughborough offered the perfect balance of academic excellence with a vibrant student experience.

The sense of community, campus atmosphere and opportunities to get involved beyond my course really appealed to me. It felt like a place where I could grow academically, personally and professionally.

The Clearing process was surprisingly smooth and reassuring. The Admissions team were incredibly supportive. They answered my questions clearly and helped me feel confident about my decision. Their friendly efficiency made what could have been a stressful experience feel straightforward and positive.

At the time, I was nervous – but excited. A leap into the unknown, it was the start of something special.

I am thoroughly enjoying my course. Being fascinated by the composition of living things, I plan to complete my undergraduate studies and then pursue a master’s in solid-state Chemistry and Physics. This will give me the best background to pursue further research as a postgraduate. I’ve already gained so many new skills and consolidated others. Communication, problem solving and scientific research methods are the three most vital to my career aspirations. Science Communication is perhaps the most valuable. Being able to communicate confidently and effectively with a range of audiences is essential to my work. I’m lucky to have had so many opportunities to hone this skill during my course.

Alongside my studies, I am the Social Secretary for the Department of Chemistry and Natural Sciences, and School Rep for Natural Sciences.

Acting as a mediator between students and our lecturers is a challenge I enjoy. I also run Peer Assisted Learning Sessions for one of my Physics modules.

I am a Level 6 Football Referee. Serving as a Football Officiating Hub Manager with Loughborough Sport and the Coaching and Volunteering Academy means I regularly get to put this qualification and passion to good use.

During my time here at Loughborough, I have grown so much – personally and professionally. I’ve grabbed every opportunity to take on leadership roles and make a real impact within the University community. Along the way, I’ve gained so much experience and expertise while building an amazing network of friends and colleagues.

Looking back, I can see the sensational impact my time as a student has already had on me. I feel like I’ve found myself and my people here.

I’m incredibly grateful I came to Loughborough through Clearing. It’s turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

My advice to anyone considering this route to university is stay calm and open-minded. Don’t think of Clearing as a setback. It’s a chance to find the right fit for you.

Research your options carefully, ask questions and trust your instincts. If I’d known how supportive universities are during the process. I’d have been much calmer from the outset. Be assured, they want to help you succeed, not to catch you out.
