I chose to study Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering because of the wide range of topics covered within the degree. I not only learned about building robots but also explored mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering and computer systems engineering. This diverse knowledge makes the degree well-rounded and has expanded the career opportunities open to me assisting with my employment options after University.
A highlight of my course was the Robotic Olympiad, where we were split into groups and assigned a competition category. At the end of the year, we showcased our robots in front of an audience, competing against other groups. The "robo-wars" experience, along with other collaborative projects fostered a strong sense of community within our course.
During my time at Loughborough, I applied theoretical concepts in the lab, from LED circuits to designing and building a robot for my final year project. For this project, I created a robotic STEM challenge to inspire children to pursue STEM careers. The success of the project led to additional funding and the opportunity to expand it further. I’m now a qualified STEM ambassador and I hope to use this experience towards obtaining chartership in the future.
