What is DigiTech?

DigiTech (Digital Technologies Network) is a student and staff network at Loughborough University focused on technology, innovation and future-facing digital skills.

Hosted under the School of Science, DigiTech works across the whole university and supports all departments and disciplines. DigiTech is open to everyone, regardless of background or experience level, and provides a friendly and inclusive environment for learning, collaboration and innovation.

DigiTech operates across four main areas: Learning, Projects, Event Support and Tech Consultancy & Tech Building.

Learning: workshops and talks that help students and staff learn new technologies.

Projects: a platform to create, join and collaborate on digital and technology projects.

Event Support: practical support for technology-focused events across the university.

Tech Consultancy & Tech Building: specialist support, consultancy and hands-on technology development.

DigiTech is open to everyone, regardless of background or experience level. It provides a beginner-friendly environment for those curious about technology, while also supporting experienced individuals to develop modern technologies, collaborate and innovate.

At its core, DigiTech is a community built around innovation, collaboration and empowerment.

DigiTech’s mission is to empower those who are curious about technology to learn and explore it, and to support those with experience in creating projects, innovating and collaborating with like-minded individuals.

DigiTech was created in response to increasing demand from students and academic staff to learn, use and develop emerging technologies.

Several technology-focused communities merged to form DigiTech, allowing these efforts to run in a more professional, structured and impactful way.

The network improves communication between students, staff and departments, and encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovation.

DigiTech also promotes polymathy, enabling individuals from different disciplines to develop technical skills that enhance their studies, research and careers.

Who can join?

DigiTech is open to all students and staff at Loughborough University.

There is no paid membership. Anyone who joins activities, the Learn page, Microsoft Teams channel or participates in projects and events is considered part of the community.

Members can access updates and resources through the Learn platform (search “DTN”), Microsoft Teams and DigiTech’s social media channels, including Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
