PGR Workshop - Systems Thinking and AI for Sustainability: Tools for Interdisciplinary Research

IAS Residential Fellow Professor Anthony Halog delivers a workshop for Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) -

This workshop equips postgraduate researchers with practical tools for investigating complex sustainability challenges. Participants will map causal relationships and feedback loops, define appropriate system boundaries, apply life cycle thinking, and identify where AI can support prediction, optimisation and decision-making. Working with a waste-to-bioplastics case study, interdisciplinary groups will translate a broad sustainability problem into a researchable systems model, identify data and uncertainty requirements, and test potential intervention points. The session is suitable for researchers in engineering, environmental science, design, business and policy. Participants will know how to frame interdisciplinary research and communicate assumptions, trade-offs and limitations responsibly.

Arrivals from 1:45 pm for a 2:00 pm start.
